Hello HydroOptix,

I dived Grand Cayman last week with the MEGA Mask and was very happy with it. I actually prepared myself for it to be a disappointment having seen many products over my life that were hyped to do something and then fail to deliver.

When we arrived, I put in my -3.00 contact lenses (leaving me about a -4.5) and went snorkeling. I could tell it was better than with my regular mask but from the surface in 8 feet of water I still wondered whether the hassle of being nearsighted on the boat, wearing glasses, and taking special care of the mask due to being made of plastic was going to be worth it. Indeed, I thought it was likely to be a big enough hassle that I was going to try it for a dive and return to my regular mask.

I decided to dive the first dive of the week with the MEGA Mask. Well, after doing my giant stride in, I plunked my face into the water. The view was, in short, breath-taking. I could see the whole dive site and was able to better orient myself to the site than ever before. The dive briefing given topside was more meaningful because I could see over a much broader range than before.

On one dive I had an experience I had never had before underwater: an enhanced sensation of stereoscopic vision. (It was a shallow dive, so I don't think it was nitrogen narcosis!). It was surreal in an enjoyable way.

I carried my cameras with me on most other dives. I really had no problem (no more than usual) adjusting to the fact that distances were more "real". I shot most frequently with a housed digital camera and had no problems there. I did one dive with my Nikonos 5 and had no problem seeing the internal shutter speek indicator. I also didn't scratch the mask even though I took no special precautions.

I wore the MEGA Mask for the entire 17 dives and would not return to my old mask unless forced to do so. It was one of those rare experience that a product lived up to the advertising claims and exceeded them. Being nearsighted topside was a little bit of a hassle, but having been nearsighted my whole life, it was not a big deal.

Anyhow, I wanted to let you know that I was very, very pleased with the mask and will make it my primary mask. I'd hate to go back to the old flat mask.
